Is there anything better than KFC? If there is, we haven’t found it yet.
Here’s how you can make your own finger lickin’ good fried chicken at home.
[title subtitle=""]What You’ll Need[/title]
1 Cup Plain Flour
2 teaspoons Onion Powder
2 teaspoons Paprika
1 teaspoon Chilli Powder
1 teaspoon Mustard Powder
4 teaspoons Dried Mixed Herbs
Salt and Pepper
Splash of Milk
Your Favourite Cut of chicken – we used 2 breasts, but thighs or drumsticks work too!
Pour oil into a metal pot and heat gently. You need enough oil to submerge the chicken, but don’t go crazy.
Set up a battering station – get 2 shallow bowls and place the flour, mixed with all the other herbs, spices and salt and pepper in one. In the other crack the egg, and a splash of milk and mix.
If you’re using chicken breasts, cut them sort of fish finger size slices.
Now take a piece of chicken and coat it in the flour, then egg, then flour again.
Place on a chopping board and repeat until all your chicken is coated in your herby floury mix
Make sure your oil has reached a good temperature by dropping a piece of bread into the pot. If it sizzles, then you’re ready to go.
Carefully place the chicken into the oil piece by piece. Depending on how much chicken you have and how big your pan is, you may need to split the chicken into batches- you don’t want to overcrowd the pot.
The chicken will need around 7-9 minutes. When golden brown remove carefully from the oil and place on kitchen roll to absorb the excess oil.
And that’s you all set, sit back and enjoy the glory of KFC style chicken in your own home!
